As Sure as the Sun

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken or my covenant of peace be removed. I have compassion on you.” Isaiah 54:10

One of my favorite Ellie Holcomb songs begins like this:

“There is good news, there is good truth, that you could never change, no matter what you do. You are loved, more than you know, more than you could hope for, after everything you’ve done as sure as the sun will rise, and take away the night, his mercy will not end.” As Sure as the Sun - Ellie Holcomb

I don’t know where you’re reading this this morning, I don’t know what you’re struggling with, what you’re hopeful for, or how you feel about Jesus, but I know that the sun rose on you today. You didn’t plan for it to rise, or coax it over the horizon - you may have even been asleep while it rose! And still, it came up to provide light for your day.

That my friend, you can count on. And just like I know without a shadow of a doubt that the sun came up on you this morning, I know how God feels about you. I know He loves you, that He likes you, that He looks on you with pleasure. Yes, YOU.

The incredible thing about God’s love is that it’s constant and dependable, even more so than our earthly sun. He loves you equally on your bad days as your good, when you’re running from Him and when you’re resting in His arms. Just as you didn’t pull the sun up over the horizon, you didn’t do anything to earn His love. It’s undeserved, unmerited, grace. There is nothing you can do today to lose that love, and there is nothing you can do to earn more of it.

Let that sink in for a moment, and let that change your day. Go out in confidence knowing that no matter what happens, no matter what anyone you meet today thinks, you are deeply and securely loved.

He has seen every nook and cranny that you hide from the world, every bit of your shame, and that love remains the same. Let the sun remind you every morning that His love is there, whether you feel it, whether you are getting it from people on earth, you could never be more or less loved than you are right now. Bask in it!
