Secret

“When you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6

This may seem a little crazy to you, but for several years, I used my closet as my secret place to pray. I made it all cozy with soft pillows, my Bible, my journal, my flashlight and my stuffed animals. I even had a little box I kept with folded up pieces of paper where I recorded all God’s answers to my prayers.

I would just read my Bible and talk to God. It was my secret place.

Do you have a place where you go to talk to God in secret? Maybe it’s just on your bed or in a special comfy chair. Now that I’m older, I have a beautiful rocking chair that I sit in every morning. Beside it, I placed a table to hold my coffee mug, a bouquet of flowers, and my journal. On the other side of the rocking chair, I have a blue basket that holds all my favorite devotional books to read. I can talk to God, read my Bible, and look out the window at the birds. I can close my eyes and relax in that chair.

If you don’t have a special place to connect with God, maybe you could think about making one. Nobody will know about your times in prayer. Nobody will praise you and tell you what a great Christian you are. They won’t know. Only God will see. And Jesus says that “your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Did you make your secret place? Remember to make it a place you absolutely love to go. What could you put there?
