Sweet

“I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.” 1 Timothy 2:9-10

Believe me, I know how hard it is to be modest these days. I have pre-teen daughters, and when we go shopping, it’s all lace camisoles, tight short-shorts, and low cut tops. Clothing is supposed to be functional and attractive, but lately, I’m finding I can’t find anything appropriate in the department stores for my young daughters to wear!

Clothing is fun. Fashion is fun. But why does it have to be trashy? Why can’t it be just. . . sweet? What if you and your friends started a revolution where preppy and modest was supremely cool again? What do you want people to think about you when they see you? Do you honestly want them to think “hot?” Wouldn’t you rather have them think smart, sporty, and fun? Don’t you want the most important thing about you to be something other than tight jeans?

Start a revolution. Sweet is back.

Go through your drawers and closets and ask yourself what each item of clothing communicates about you. Most of my clothes say, “She’s a professor (I know, boring!),” so lately I’m trying to be more fun with bright colors and fun boots. Nothing in my wardrobe draws your eyes to my chest or my bottom, so when you talk to me, you’re getting me and not my body parts. Give it a try!
