Let Us Pray

“Pray without stopping.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

What do you think about prayer? Is it something you look forward to? Is it something you dread? Is it something you just have to check off your “good Christian girl checklist”? Be honest! Jesus knows your heart anyway! Let’s look at this together.

Why should we pray? First of all, God has told us to pray! It is a commandment; and if we love Him, we will obey His commands. Praying is referenced over 300 times in Scripture! If your teacher or parent talked to you about the same thing over 300 times, wouldn’t you think it is important to them? Absolutely! And it is to God!

What is prayer? It is simply talking with God. Sharing with Him all that is on your heart. Expressing your fears, your dreams and your feelings. Telling Him you love Him! Listening to Him.

Who do you like to talk to? Who do you like to spend time with? Your friends? Your family? The people you love? YES!!! You want to spend time with them because you LOVE them. We should want to spend time with God even more because of our LOVE for Him!

But it is hard to love someone that you do not know. Can you maintain a relationship with someone if you have no communication with him? It is hard to have a relationship with someone we never talk to or hear from. The way you get to know someone is to spend TIME with that person.

You can know ALL ABOUT someone but you cannot KNOW someone until you spend QUALITY TIME with him. Psalm 5:3 says, “In the morning Lord, you hear my voice. In the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.” Does He hear your voice in the morning?

Are you a “Good morning, Lord!” type of girl or, are you a “Good Lord, it’s morning!” type of girl???? It doesn’t matter when, but we need to spend time every day in prayer. The question is not how can we find the time to pray. The question should be how can we NOT make the time to pray! He is the ONE PERSON who loves us MORE THAN ANY FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER EVER WILL.”

M.E. Andross said it best. “There is no other activity in life so important as that of prayer. Every other activity depends on prayer for its best efficiency.” Start today by talking and listening to the God who created you. The more you do this, the more you will know Him. And I guarantee you, the more you know Him, the more you will love Him!
