Instructed

“The Sovereign LORD has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.” Isaiah 50:4

This very day, you can be the voice of encouragement to someone. God can give you specially-timed words—exact words at the exact right time—to sustain a weary soul around you. If you wake up each day and listen to God, He will instruct you with words that just might change someone’s life.

Can you imagine it? Can you imagine bringing healing words from God’s heart to another person today? Maybe it’s a lonely girl in the lunchroom. Maybe it’s a teacher. Maybe it’s a parent, a neighbor, or a pen pal far away. Maybe it’s someone on Facebook or Twitter.

Maybe it’s someone in your class that you actually don’t like very much at all. Are you willing to bring sustaining words to even that person today?

It’s a great mental exercise to consider what you’re using words for today. What are your words accomplishing? Are they harmful, negative, sarcastic, and bitter? Are they spreading poison or shining the light of truth? Are they healing, beautiful, joyous, instructed words? You have wonderful words to speak and write.

Ask God to give you words that “sustain the weary” in your community.

Where are your words going these days? What are they accomplishing?
