A Way Out

“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so you can endure.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

Today, you might need to pray that God shows you the way out.

You’re tempted to be less than the young woman God wants you to be. You’re tempted to compromise on God’s commands. Gossip, foul language, partying, bad company, dating the wrong boys, disobeying your parents, complaining, lying…

The list of daily temptations is long and complicated. How will you stand up under it?

I often ask Jesus to show me the way out. I ask Him to give me the power and presence of mind to avoid any behaviors or attitudes that don’t please Him.

Over the years, I’ve learned that my way out begins even before I leave my house. I ask God to help me decide right now not to compromise in any area. Keep me pure. Keep me wholesome. Keep me healthy. Keep me wise. Keep me kind. Keep me in your hand. Keep me submissive to authority figures. Keep me, Jesus.

I also ask Jesus to change my heart about the things that tempt me. I begin preparing my heart early, especially if I know I’m going to be in a tempting environment. Over time, the temptations lose their hold on me. I can walk about in freedom as I run in the path of God’s commands.

Make a private list of all your temptation areas. Pray over each one. Ask Jesus for the gift of self-control, and ask Him to show you the way out of any sin that’s tempting you.
