“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:8
Do you think something might change in you if you meditated on God’s word day and night? I’ve been alive almost four decades, and I can tell you this: Days spent reading God’s word in the morning and ending my day in thanks, praise, and Bible reading are fabulous days.
God’s word enlivens my spirit to perceive the things of God. When I read the Bible, the Holy Spirit transforms my heart and mind. God has special things to communicate to me through His word, and when I’m not reading it, it’s like I’m not answering the phone or opening the text message.
I’m not up-to-date on my news feed or my tweets from Jesus. I care more about my twitter followers’ insights than Jesus. I care more about Facebook news than Jesus. I can drop everything to text all day, but when God wants my attention, I’m suddenly busy.
I’m super up-to-date on all my social media. In fact, I grab my smart phone first thing in the morning and usually check it before I go to bed.
What if, instead, we grabbed our Bibles and journals? What if we tried an experiment to trade out our phones for God’s words to us? Think about the Bible like you think about your phone: There’s a text waiting. There’s a status update just for you. You’ve been messaged. You’ve been mentioned. You’ve been liked and followed.
Why not receive every message God has just for you today?
Try this: Read God’s word every morning and every night this week. What difference does it seem to make?
