“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap a harvest, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
There was a young writer in New York City that had written a book that he just knew would be a best seller. He went to 23 different publishers and all 23 times he was turned down. Again and again he tried, and on the 24th try, his book was accepted. His name? Dr. Suess.
There once was a young boy that dreamed of going to West Point and becoming a soldier. It was his lifelong dream. When the time finally came to apply, he was shocked to learn he was turned down. Not deterred, he applied again. And again he was turned down. Finally, he applied a third time and was finally able to attend this notorious school and become a soldier. It’s a good thing he didn’t give up because he became one of the greatest generals of all time. His name? General Douglas McArthur.
Back in the early baseball days there was a young guy that wanted to play baseball more than anything in the world. He knew he had it in him! But over the course of his career, his walks and strikeouts totaled well over 3,000. His stats would say he should quit. But he didn’t. And he became one of the greatest players of all time. His name? Mickey Mantle.
I love never give up stories! I could listen to them all day long. They are so inspiring! So encouraging! They all have a different set of circumstances but the lesson remains the same.
The key to their success is perseverance – the ability to keep on going despite failure. The determination to never lose heart even though your heart has been broken.
Scripture tells us that we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Whatever circumstances you are facing or difficulties that arise, keep pressing on.
Don’t tire of doing good. And whatever you do, NEVER GIVE UP. Who knows, maybe one day your name will be among a list of great men and women that refused to quit. Dr. Suess, General Douglas McArthur, Mickey Mantle and you!
