“You shall have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:3
Everybody worships something, even if they say they don’t. People can worship lots of things, like nature, self, money, power, relationships. We were made to worship God, and if we don’t worship him, we naturally find something else to worship.
Let me say that again, we were made to worship God, the one true God. He is explicit in commanding us that he is of the first and foremost importance in our lives. He is the only true God and nothing compares to him, not even the angels.
So what might it look like when God is first and foremost in your life? You choose him EXCLUSIVELY.
This will require some sacrifice, but he demands exclusivity. You adore and magnify him. You “fear” him- this word fear means awe and respect, not being afraid. We don’t have to be afraid of what God will do to us because of what he has already done for us with Christ’s sacrifice.
You trust him, and know he is good. You love him, and you obey him. I don’t know about you, but I break this command every day. Remember, God’s law reminds us that we are sinners. But Christ saves us from the punishment we deserve.
Remember, as we are talking about putting God first and foremost, that also means trusting in Christ as your savior. Your ONLY savior. Isn’t that marvelous grace that God saves us from our sin? He is worthy of our worship and adoration. Put him first.
What do you worship on a day to day basis?
