“ For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.” Luke 8:17
Have you ever done a good deed that no one noticed, and at the same time hoped that you’d get recognition for it? Of course you have. We all have. Have you done a good deed behind the scenes and then told someone what you did? We do these things because we love to receive praise and be acknowledged by others. Sometimes we feel like if we do something nice for someone else and no one realizes we did it, then it’s pointless.
Doing good for others should not be about making ourselves seem better or receiving attention. Even if you do an act of service for someone, it is the state of your heart that God cares about. He wants us to be selfless and love others to build them up and not ourselves. God not only sees everything we do, He also examines our hearts and our motives behind what we are doing. Nothing is hidden from God.
We should act humbly, and Jesus is the perfect model for this. Humility is being free from pride and arrogance and putting others before yourself. Christ “did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:5-8)
The next time you do something good for someone else, know that God is watching. Act in love for others to build them up and glorify God, not yourself.
