“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” Psalm 103:1-5
Last night I woke up at 4:30 am with a terrible sore throat. I hate being sick. Actually I haven’t met one person who enjoys being sick. I think sometimes as humans we try to pretend like everything’s okay and even when we are physically sick we try to make excuses and say “Oh it’s not that bad. I’ll be okay.”
Two months after my late night sore throat I was forced to see a doctor and was told I had walking pneumonia. I thought I was fine and didn’t need any help.
Sometimes it is very humbling to know how weak you and I are. We are humans and we are so weak compared to God.
After three different antibiotics and learning what it felt like to breath deeply again I was reminded of my physical weaknesses. Unexpectedly, sickness enters into our lives along with loss, confusion, and broken relationships. We try to run our own lives by ourselves knowing that it is impossible.
Jesus gave up everything for us, so that we could have everything. It is Jesus, “who redeems your life from the pit.” Jesus, “who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,” and Jesus, “who heals all your diseases.”
Go to Jesus for help, I promise you aren’t supposed to do it alone. He will satisfy you with goodness and will care for you in every way of life.
