You are Flawless

“I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” Psalm 139:14

I read the “Fault in Our Stars” two Christmases ago. I am guessing that at some point since the book and movie released, you have as well. But the part that touched me more than anything was the letter than Gus wrote to Van Houten. As he described Hazel (the girl he loves), I just lost it!

If you need a reminder, here it is: “What else? She is so beautiful. You don’t get tired of looking at her. You never worry if she is smarter than you: You know she is. She is funny without ever being mean. I love her. I am so lucky to love her, Van Houten.” I remember thinking: “Geez, I hope I find someone in this world who loves me that well… Who thinks I am that perfect.”

But now I have thankfully gained a little more perspective. There is someone who not only thinks that about us – but knows that about us - because He created us. That He is our Heavenly Father. Psalm 139:14 says this: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” You are perfect.

I know how easy it is to forget that God Himself took his time molding us. When you look in the mirror and see something you don’t like, it’s convenient to complain. But rather than do that, look at it as something that God picked out special just for you. He picked each feature of your beauty, personality, intelligence, etc. And they go together perfectly.

YOU ARE PERFECT! You are hilarious! You are kind! You are smart! You are important! (Do I sound like Aibileen from “The Help”)? But you really, truly are.

Matthew 5:47 agrees! Jesus reminds us, “Therefore you must be perfect, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.” We are made in His image. God never gets tired of looking at you. He never gets tired of your jokes. He is blown away by your intelligence, and all of your remarkable traits are remarkable because they were woven together by God. He didn’t skip any corners; He took his precious time coloring you inside the lines. You, precious lamb, are fearfully and wonderfully made.

And just in case you need a little more proof, write this down and put it somewhere you will see it constantly:

“You are all together beautiful, my love. There is no flaw in you.” (Song of Solomn 4:7).

Not one single flaw. You, my dear, are flawless. And don’t you forget it.
