Tears

“This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: “I have heard your prayer and seen your tears.” 2 Kings 20:5

Lately I’ve been thinking about all the times in my life I’ve really wept. By the time I was a teenager, I had indeed experienced some real sorrow. Pain, loss, disappointment, and betrayal are part of life on earth. Even if I had years when I wasn’t personally suffering, I knew many people who were.

One of my first real encounters with Jesus was when I was crying. I was in my bedroom, and I began to read my Bible and talk to God. I read in the Psalms that God sees my tears and records them. In Psalm 56, I read how God keeps track of our tears. Some translations say that God has “collected all my tears in a bottle.” As I read how God “keeps track of my tossings and wanderings,” I began to realize how personal and loving our God is.

In 2 Kings 20, we learn that God hears our prayers and sees our tears. I felt so comforted! I felt so loved! Then in Psalm 30:5, I read a great promise that “weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes through the Lord in the morning.” Knowing that God sees me and keeps track of my tears draws me to Him. I can talk to Him about anything concerning me. I can cry with Jesus. Maybe you need to cry about something today. God is with you. He sees you, and He is keeping track of you. He will bring joy in the morning.

Write down some areas of your life where you need real comfort today. Let God be your Comforter and know that He actually sees your tears and records them.
