There’s Nothing

“Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? […] No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8: 35-39

Listening to worship music is one of my favorite ways to draw close to God, and I have been so moved byAmanda Cook’s song “There’s Nothing”. The song is inspired by Romans 8 and says:

“What could separate us from Your love? Is there anything, anything? What could be more final than Your blood? Is there anything, anything?

There’s nothing, nothing, nothing. There’s nothing, nothing, nothing. There’s no height and there’s no depth. No power in hell, no scheme of man. There’s nothing, nothing, nothing”

Just think this idea sink in for a moment: there is nothing, literally nothing that can keep us from God’s love, or really keep God’s love from us. God is willing to move heaven and earth, even sacrifice His very Son, that we might know Him and draw close to Him. Through Jesus, He has torn down every dividing wall that would keep us from being able to have a relationship with Him.

I know it’s easy to let the stress of current circumstances or the fear of what’s to come keep us stuck, believing that God doesn’t see or doesn’t care, but that is the furthest thing from the truth. The bridge to “There’s Nothing” declares it this way:

“[There’s nothing] That could shut a door You’ve opened. That could override Your word. That could claim to be a mountain You can’t move. Oh, there’s nothing that could. Keep You from Your children. Or change the way You feel about them. Build a wall that’s strong enough You can’t break through”

There is nothing that can change God’s mind about you or change His love for you. I hope today you’ll take a few minutes, close your eyes, listen to this song, and let the truth of God’s great love for you sink deep into your heart. There is nothing that can separate you from His love!
