“To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness” Ephesians 4:22-24
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him” Lamentations 3:22-4
I think sunrises are one of God’s best creations. I love the reminder every day that the darkness is temporary that there we have the chance at a new beginning every single day. I have never had a morning where I got up to watch the sunrise where I wasn’t in absolute awe and wonder at the beauty of creation.
I think many people overlook sunrises, but to me, there really is nothing better than getting up with a cup of coffee and watching the world wake up. It is a time that I like to spend praising the Lord for his grace and his mercy that is new every day; I can look at creation and the visible work of the Lord. Every sunrise is different, depending on the weather, the time of year, where in the world you are.
I think one of the most beautiful parts of the sunrise is watching the darkness turn into light every morning and the beauty that comes with the process. I think this is how our relationship with the Lord is.
He enters into our darkness, our sin and shame, and he brings the light. We begin a journey of learning to lean on his love and grace in all situations, to keep our gaze on him in all circumstances. He transforms even the darkest places in our lives into something beautiful and full of awe.
Sunrises don’t happen immediately either; they take time. The time that they take is beautiful. The process of darkness becoming light, is full of pinks, oranges, and blues. It looks different for every single person, but everyone is a beautiful transformation.
Every person’s journey with the Lord is different, we all have different gifts, and different struggles, but there is beauty in the differences. Yet we can be certain of the transformation that is happening as the Lord is restructuring our hearts and our lives.
