What Does a Great Day Attitude Look Like?

“This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!”Psalm 118:24

We love Lord of the Rings in our house! We watch the whole series at least once a year (although I can’t say we read the books that often…).

One of my favorite lines is when Frodo, feeling very overwhelmed by the task before him says, “I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.” Then Gandalf responds, “So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil.”

What a great thing to remember! It’s not all about whether things are going well or not - it’s about what we do with it. What kind of attitude do we have about it?

The second part of what he says points us to why we should have a great attitude about it - “There are other forces at work… besides the will of evil.” There is so much good in this world! God is good, and He is working good in this world and in our lives All. The. Time!

Every day is the day that the Lord has made, whether it feels like a good one or a bad one. And God made that day to lead you down the path that He has already chosen for you. So whether it feels great or not, there is always something to rejoice about!

There has never been anyone on the planet earth who embraced the great day attitude more than Jimdaddy. I knew that man from when I was born, and I don’t think I once heard him say anything negative! That’s not to say his life was perfect - I’m sure there were days and moments when he didn’t feel like things were perfect. But he always remembered that God has a better plan for us - that whatever we’re living through in this moment was designed by God, and that there is good to find in every situation.

Jimdaddy would find whatever was good and that would be what he chose to focus on. He knew that no one can decide what situations they will have to live through in life, but everyone can decide what kind of attitude they are going to have about it.

Sometimes you’ll find yourself in situations that feel really terrible. When that happens, remember that you don’t get to decide what situation you’re going to be in. That has already been designed and planned for you. But you can decide what you will do with your situation.

Will you find something good to say, a reason to praise God? Ask God to help you find the good in each situation. Remember: this day was made by the Lord for you to live in, so, whether it’s good or bad, you can always find something to rejoice in!
