“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore” Psalm 16:11
Do you ever just feel like things don’t seem to be going your way? Do you ever feel trapped with an endless list of stuff you have to get done? I know I definitely have.
Somedays I feel like no matter what I do things just aren’t going my way. Maybe I didn’t do as well on the test as I had hoped I would. Maybe I got in a fight with my mom or a good friend. Maybe I didn’t get chosen to be captain of the soccer team. Maybe the piles of homework on my desk just keep getting bigger no matter how much effort I am putting forth. I can get down in the dumps when things don’t seem to be going my way. Sometimes I just can’t help but wish for a sunny day where I can just roll down the Pageant Court with all of my camp pals.
Yet, amidst the piles of work and gloomy days God has been SO present in unexpected & expected ways. His presence makes the hard things bearable. Little did I know I just needed to take a look around! God shows up in the littlest moments and places. You just need to keep your eyes wide open to experience God’s presence.
This one particular week I felt like no matter what I did, things weren’t going my way. I had way too many papers and projects due in one week. I did not do well on a test that I spent an entire weekend studying for. To top it all off I wasn’t getting along with my roommate. Little did I know I was in for a good surprise.
I quickly saw signs of God’s presence all around me. I ran into a friend who I had not seen a while and it was so good to see a friendly, smiling face. That same afternoon I met with one of my professors for advice. Hearing encouraging words from her when I least expected it was one of the best feelings. My college campus sits right on sparkling Lake Michigan. Little did I know, I just needed to take a break to sit by the lake and look at God’s beautiful creation. Seeing all of these signs of God’s presence quickly turned my mood around. It made me so happy and it gave me the motivation I needed to get through the week.
When you go about your day, keep your eyes peeled and your heart open. God is always around us. He is present in the little things and the big things. He is present in nature, in people, in a stranger’s friendly smile, in DMCs, and so so much more. Just notice all of the good things happening in your day (big or little) and say “Hey, thanks God!” Trust me, finding his presence can bring you so much happiness!
God is always there cheering us on. He is telling us that even though we are going through a difficult time, we can do it and we will get through it. He is there by our sides ready to climb the highest mountains with us. He is good.
