Keeps Promises

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23

Have you ever broken a promise? Given your word and then not followed through? Told a friend you’d keep her secret and then shared that juicy news with someone else? Have you ever promised your parents you’d follow their rules but then did what you wanted to do instead?

If you are living and breathing on this earth, I bet you’ve broken your word many times. Chances are, you’ve also had someone break a promise they’ve made to you. Most of the time, this hurts. We feel betrayed and silly for being so foolish to trust another person with something that was important to us. Often we stop believing the words that come from that person. Is she telling the truth this time or will we be disappointed again? How can we really know that her words mean something real?

In stark contrast, the most trustworthy words of all come from God. The Bible reveals over and over again that God keeps ALL his promises to his people. Promises like:

  • I will go before you. (Deuteronomy 31:8)
  • I will not leave you or forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:8, John 14:18)
  • I will give you peace. (John 14:27)
  • I will help you. (Romans 8:26-28)
  • I will be your friend. (John 15:13-15)
  • I will always love you. (1 Corinthians 13:8,13, 1 John 4:7-19)

We can bank on these promises being true because he has sealed them with his Son, Jesus. Through Jesus, God promises that our sins are forgiven. This truth is the best news we can receive today. . . . Our God keeps his word, he tells us that we are loved and forgiven, and he sets our hearts free to enjoy him forever!
