Take Care of Your Body

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1

Each of us is a vessel of God’s light and love. As such, we have the divine responsibility of taking care of our bodies so that God’s light and love can pour out of us for the rest of the world to see.

Our bodies are such miracles and gifts, but sometimes, it’s easy to neglect our responsibility to take good care of them. We might, for example, struggle to eat food that nourishes us in a healthy fashion; we may neglect to give our body the rest it needs; and/or we may fail to exercise our body and keep it strong.

What are a few of your favorite ways to honor your physical body in order to let God’s light shine through? Here are a few of mine:

  • Make a Green Smoothie for breakfast, in order to get my fruits and veggies all in one! Recipe: 1 cup almond milk, 2 handfuls spinach, 1 banana, frozen berries of any type, a bit of Greek Yogurt + a sprinkle of cinnamon, 1 cup ice – delicious!
  • Go on long walks/hikes with friends
  • Practice a sport, go to a fitness class, or do a fitness video with friends a few times per week
  • Read (a book, not Facebook!) for 10-20 minutes before bed and commit to getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night

Prayer: God, help me honor and take care of my body so that I can radiate Your love and light for all to see. Help me nourish it well, give it enough rest, and keep it strong and healthy by exercising regularly and in a balanced fashion, so I can be my best self. Amen.
