“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
I read these words of Jesus this morning, and I asked Him to help me “let my light shine” today so others could see it.
This is a great daily prayer. I wonder how God wants to put your life on display for the world. I wonder in what ways He wants your light to shine. What good deeds has He prepared for you today that will cause others to glorify your Father in heaven?
A lonely girl at the lunch table may need an encouraging word. A teacher may need a note or gift to let him know you appreciate him. Maybe there’s an opportunity today to proclaim how much God loves your friends. Maybe you choose to redirect a gossiper. Maybe you give your hardworking parents a hug. Maybe you sing a song, write a poem or story, perform excellently in your tasks, promote Biblical truth, or simply move about your day with a positive, thankful heart.
You have light within you that needs to shine. It must. You’re made to shine. Remember this today.
How does God want you to “let your light shine before others” today?
