Christ Comes to Us

“For unto us a child is born, To us a son given, And the government shall be upon his shoulder. And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and Of peace there shall be no end.” Isaiah 9:6-7a

Isaiah 9: What a proclamation! As Christmas nears, I always return to this passage. What I love is the fact that God came to be with us. He took on the form of a baby, went through the world at our pace, and was still able to maintain His holiness. Jesus’s name Immanuel, or “God with us,” means so much to me in this season of life.

I’m learning that there is no way to escape the bumpiness, the messiness of life. Yet through it all, Jesus is with us. He is our Wonderful Counselor when we don’t know our next step. He is our Mighty God when we consider his powerful works of creation, healing, and salvation. He is our Everlasting Father when our worldly relationships feel hard and frayed. And He is our Prince of Peace when we are overwhelmed by the circumstances of our world and life.

Following Jesus does not mean we won’t suffer or struffle, but when He has true governance over our lives, we can find peace in the midst of our circumstances.

Which of these four names of God (Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace) do you identify with most? Praise God in prayer for being that for you.

Which of these names of God do you need to experience more of? Pray a prayer asking Him to be your Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, or Prince of Peace in this season of your life. Wait in expectation to see Him do it!
