“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43: 18-19
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
There are many times when I find this hard to believe.
God is making me new? No, I don’t perceive it. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening!
He is continually making us new! Until His good work is complete in us. (Spoiler alert: this is happening till we meet Jesus face to face.)
We tend to be our own worst critic. I can see all the areas that I need to work on, where I fail, and I just feel like a selfish and sinful human.
But to believe there are parts of me that look like Jesus? It seems nearly impossible to believe that he is changing us, making us new, and that he isn’t stopping or giving up on us. We aren’t those awkward projects we get really passionate about and then two weeks later end up on a shelf to never get looked at again.
“Until the day of Christ Jesus”, it says. Until your eyes lock onto His, He is not giving up on you. He is making you new in the wilderness, even when you don’t see anything growing.
I promise you, that right now, He is shaping you more into His image. Whether you feel it or not. Let’s be okay with acknowledging that God has worked in us and will continue to until we are finally complete in Christ Jesus.
