“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
A few months ago I was driving while one of our daughters was in the back seat. I randomly asked her, “Do you ever know where we are when I’m driving?” She was honest and said, “No, not really. Not until we’re on our street.” Fair enough. She’s only ten. She can look out the window. She can see some familiar sights. She knows where we just came from, but she doesn’t always know where we’re going. And she certainly has no control over when we get there!
Even though she can’t see exactly where we’re going, what she can see is who is driving her — whether it’s me or her mom or someone else trusted in her life. She at least knows she can trust us to get her where she needs to go.
Walking in faith is a lot like riding in the back seat of the car. We don’t always know where God is taking us. We can look around and evaluate where we are. We can remember where we’ve been. And even though we can’t exactly know what’s coming next, we can look to our very trusted Driver — to know that He knows exactly where He’s going and how to get there.
God has a plan. He is in firm control. He is a good, good Father who is taking us along the journey just as He plans to do. And we can trust Him along the way!
So let’s buckle up, sit back, and enjoy the ride. Because there is no better Driver in the front seat than this One!
