You Don't Have to Earn God's Love

“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42

I think there is this lie we have all come to believe that in order to experience God for all that He is, we have to get ourselves together.

We have to do the right things, be with the right people, and all in a very specific formulaic way, or else we wont quite hit the mark. And if we don’t hit that mark, then we are not worth God’s time.

Hear me out - you are loved.

You are so loved for all that you are, and all that you’re not. You don’t have to earn God’s love.

Although we hear it from others, and we reassure it to those that we love, it’s so hard believing this truth for ourselves.

So let me just speak it over you and me one more time: because of the cross, you are enough. You are loved, sought after, chosen, accepted. He is continually making us new. He has redeemed us, and covers us with love.
