Troubled vs. Trusting

“Don’t let this throw you. You trust God, don’t you? Trust me.” John 14:1 (MSG)

For as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with fear.

Fear of the unknown. Fear of the future. Fear of what could go wrong. These fears may seem small, but they can feel so very big at the moment.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize that I’m not the only person who falls victim to fear. Plenty of people, including my friends and family members, also face this battle with fear.

It’s no surprise that we find ourselves fearful so often when you consider the world we live in today. With stories of tragedy coming across our T.V. screens and newspapers every day, it can be easy to find ourselves troubled and fearful.

But, lately I’m learning that Jesus wants us to trade our troubled and fearful hearts for a trusting one.

John 16:33 says, “I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.” (MSG). ⁣

Today, we can choose to take heart. Even though we will experience trouble this side of Heaven, we can live unshakable and deeply at peace with the assurance that Jesus has conquered the world.

Even when we’re not in control…⁣ Even when we don’t know the future…⁣ Even when we make mistakes…⁣

We don’t have to be thrown by fear of the future. Instead, we can trust that God is over it all.
