“Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you, I give men in return for you, peoples in exchange for your life. Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you.” Isaiah 43:4-5
Everyone who wants to have a little sister talks a lot about the amazing parts of having one. Having a built-in-best friend to tell secrets to, dress up with, and hang out all the time with doesn’t sound so bad does it?
When I was very little, I dreamt that my brother was actually a sister instead (sorry, William!) and I would try to imagine what it would be like to actually have a sister as I got older. Not surprisingly, my brother turned out as typical brothers do, but my family was eventually blessed with another girl!
For a long while, I thought that nothing could ever change the love I had for my sister. As time went on, my sister began to cry. A lot. She also threw her toys and seemed to take up all of my mom’s attention. As a five year old, I began to feel lonely and left out of all the hustle and bustle. Sometimes I would be so mad at my sister for her crying or tantrums. Other times, I would be so sad that I couldn’t help her fix whatever she was crying about. Being a sister was not what I thought it was going to be, especially at that time.
As I got older and began to learn about the love that God has for his church and his people, this got me thinking about the love we all have for each other, and of course my sister came to mind. I love her so very much, but just like when we were little, it can be hard to love her sometimes even now when we are both much more grown up!
Being a sister is exhausting, scary, and stressful. The love that the Lord has for us never runs out, gets frustrated, tired, or cranky. God never gets tired of listening to us cry out for help, and his patience is everlasting and always abounding.
We have so much love for those close to us, it is hard to even quantify how much love there is. Guess what? God loves us infinitely more than that! God’s love transcends all of our wildest dreams and desires. I don’t entirely know what that means exactly, but it sure sounds amazing!
We are being constantly set on a path by the creator of the universe to be the movers, changers, and leaders of the world, so what do we have to be anxious about? When we live for the Lord, we become the people we were meant to be. So have no fear.
