“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
I am so weary from this week because I have chosen a yoke that is heavy and burdensome. One that makes me ache from pain and exhaustion. One that leaves me frustrated, impatient, cold and not caring.
I have decided that if I cannot do all of these roles that I have inserted myself into then I am not adequate. So I fight with all my might to prove to myself that I am capable, just to discover I am nowhere close.
I have asked Jesus question after question, yet I never stick around to hear the answer, or give him room to move. I come back, over and over again, with demanding requests. Selfish requests that give no life or satisfaction. And he responds, “Do you not trust me? I am trustworthy.”
He desires to lavish gifts on me, to be with me as I walk out this crazy adventure, to walk closely with me in the hard mornings—like today.
If I trust, I can see him in all things. I see him now in the subtle light radiating through changing leaves, and in the steady ripple of the water. He is with you, He is able, He longs to give you the rest you crave.
How can you release your burden to Him today?
